Question about sa on SQL Server 2005
trying to login to SQL Server Management Studio, if I want to login as sa,
what is the password for sa ?
Inside SQL Server Management Studio I changed the password for sa, click
OK, and when trying to login to SQL Server Management Studio again with sa
and the password that I just changed it to, it did not let me. It tells me
"Login failed for user sa. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server
connection. Microsoft SQL Server, error: 18452".
Thank you.
Are you using Windows or SQL authentication with SQL 2005?

I also posted this in another thread:
when I go to the SQL Server Management Studio and connect to the
Object Explorer and select my Server (there are 2 options for this),
when I select 1 of the server it says SQL Server 8.0.384 and the other

Where is my SQL Server 2005 ?

Question about RS2k user logon window
When I'm trying to logon the reporting service main page, the user logon dialogue box will ask you to input the authorized user id and password(It's the account created in windows system). But when I try to open certain report!on my reporting server, this logon dialogue box will be displayed again and I have to input the account and password again. All the reports can be directly opened after second entry.
So my quesition is how to setup reporting service so that I can open all the reports directly just after the first entry. That will bother users to browse report!freely only after inputing authority information twice.
PS: My platform is Windows 2K Server SP4 + SQL Server 2K SP4.
Thats because you first contact the Reporting Server (localhot/reports) and the afterwards the localhost/reportserver Webservice. Seems that you configured it for integrated authentication and did not setup the Windows client to pass user credentials automatically or did setup the client to use basic authentication instead of integrated Wndows Authentication.

Ok,I've solved problem. That's because I use domain name to logon my reporting server like this format: http://www.xxxx.com/reports, but I've setup the IP address in the reportmanager configuration file RSWebApplication.config to access the reportserver :<ReportServerUrl>http://220.xxx.xxx.xxx/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>.
So the first time when I logon to the report!manager, it poped up a logon window with domain name and user account like this format: www.xxxx.com/rptuser, then after I clicked certain report, it pointed to the report!server and asked you to logon with this account: 220.xxx.xxx.xxx/rptuser . I've changed my ReportServerUrl setup to domain name then the problem is solved.

Question about encryption and password protection
Couple quick questions:
1) How much does setting encryption cost in terms of speed of querying and cpu usage?
2) If encryption is not set, is the password "encrypted" when its sent with the initialization routine?
Thanks in advance!
1: Most agree on a 10 - 20 % performance hit (on devices), it is probably not noticeable on a desktop.
2: If a password is specifed, you are always using encryption
Password-or-Pwd-or-database password-or-ssce
atabase password
The database password, which can be up to 40 characters in length. If not specified, the default value is no password. This property is required if you enable encryption on the database. If you specify a password, encryption is automatically enabled on the database.

Question
In SqlServer, What is the datatype to mask a field of a table ? I mean if I want to save a password in a table, entering to SQLServer I'd want to display "*****" instead of "hello".
Thanks...
There are HTML, .NET, and Win32 controls that can be used to mask user input as they're entering some sensitive data in your application.
If, however, you want to ensure that users can't query your database for the names and passwords of all of the other users of the database, then you'll want to use any of a variety of permissions on your database.
For instance, if some operation is being done on the user's behalf, you could control the permissions on a table containing sensitive data to allow only indirect access (e.g. allow a server process to insert, update, delete from the table on the user's behalf, but disallow direct manipulation of the underlying table by the user). This obviously requires some form of strong and reliable user authentication.
You could also use row and/or column level permissions to control the amount of data that a user is able to see. For example, row level security (applied correctly) would allow everyone to perform a SELECT username, password FROM users and only see the data from rows that they had specifically been given access to.
There is lots of good documentation on establishing permissions on securables (tables, views, columns, etc.) in the SQL Server Books Online. There is also an excellent article on this subject at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/multisec.mspx
