Question about SQL

Hi all,

I have created a photo album in my local computer with [Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition] my data base is SQL I built it with the same program. Also, I used the ASP.net Configuration to setup the user's account, every thing working 100% in my local computer.

I have an account with www. Hostonce .com they offer and support MS SQL 2005 and ASP.net, and they gave me an IP number to access to my MSSQL server with [SQL Server Management Studio Express], I do access when I put the IP address and the password, but I have no idea how to move the entire project with the SQL files to my server. I tried to transfer all my files with FTP, but it didn't work, they told me I have to transfer my SQL to the same IP address and then I have to do the connection things in my pages.

Please Help.

Thank You

Ok, you'll need to migrate the database from Express Edition to the MS SQL 2005 if they don't provide the Express Edition.|||

I think they support only MS SQL 2005 , but would you mind to tell me how i can solve this problem and how i can migrate the database from Express Edition to the MS SQL 2005 ?

Thank You,Smile

|||If you don't have Studio to connect to both databases to do the migration. You can ask your hosting company to do the migration for you. Some hosting companies will do that for you

Question about replication

Do I need to buy license for replication in SQL Server 2005 Express version?
Or it is totally free?
Roy,
as far as I know it is entirely free to use, whether to replication or
otherwise. However, for our purposes it is somewhat limited - subscriber
only, 1GB RAM, 1 processor and no sql server agent.

Question about replication

Does SQL Server 2005 Express Edition support replication? How about MSDE 2000?
Its can be a subscriber to merge and transactional publications.
Here is a link which describes the limitations for MSDE and replication:

question about removing logins at server level

Hi,
I created a login 'Network service' at server level in Management Studio
express.
I use windows authentification.
Then i defined an user for my database which is associated to login 'Network
service', because the application asp.net uses that account (IIS 6.0). This
user received db_read and db_write roles.
This works.
Now i experimented a little bit and i removed from the logins at server
level the login 'Network service'.
Result: the application still works.
.
Then i removed the Builtin\users login from the login list at server level.
Result: i get the error: "login failed for Network service".
I recreated then the login 'Network Service' at server level but not the
Builtin\users login.
Result: it works again.
My conclusion is: one of the two logins must be in the list: Network Service
or Builtin\users
Is this right?
Why do i get that error when both logins are removed and not only when
Network Service is removed?
Thanks
JeanBecause you're using Windows Authentication. From what you described it
doesn't sound like the connection to the db server ever came in using the
Network Service login, but rather came in using Builtin\users.

mapped or not, but I just did a test on one of my sql servers. I previously
did not have the BUILTIN\Users login and tried to login with a domain account
login that did not exist on the sql server nor the windows 2003 server. When
I tried to login access was denied. Once I created the BUILTIN\Users login on
hte sql server I was able to get in.

Question about profiling SQL Server Express

Anyone here know of a guide to profiling for MS SQL Server
Express?
SQL Server Profiler is available in Standard /Enterprise and developer
editions. It is not included in the Express or Workgroup editions.
Either you can purchase a single license and install management tools else
you could
create manual TRACE using sp_trace_create , sp_trace_setevent and
sp_trace_setstatus.
Thanks

Thanks, Hari.
Let me expand my question. I now use SQL Server 2005 Express,
and I do need to add profiling.
My question is, with the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard
Edition Full Version (License Only) Volume License for PC,
available from on-line sources for about $179,
do I get a database server and management tools?
Or in so many words, what's the cheapest solution to (a) making
my 2005 databases run and (b) having profiling capability? I know
it's a dumb question, but I'm a little blindsided by all the
options.
Also, I now use the SQL Server Management Tool, but I
think something like this comes with the standard edition.
Is this true?
TIA!

Question about multiple subscriptions

Hello,

Ok we are finally get close to testing SQL 2005 with SQL Express 2005:). So I have a publication named hh3_100_pub. We currently ghost each unit so the instance name and database names are the same. My question is we have 20 possible subcribers. Does each subsriber need to:

1. Have a different instance name?
2. Have a different database name?

What would I do to add another subscriber with the same instance name and
database name?

code below

--BEGIN: Script to be run at Publisher
'B-DB\BDBSERVER'--
use [sandiego] --database to set as publication
exec sp_addmergesubscription @.publication = N'hh3_100_pub', --the name given
to the publication during the creation of the publication via the wizard
@.subscriber = N'vm2ksqlexpress\hh3', --name of the subscriber client
instance
@.subscriber_db = N'wip', --name of the subscriber db
@.subscription_type = N'pull',
@.subscriber_type = N'global',
@.subscription_priority = 0,
@.sync_type = N'Automatic'
GO

--BEGIN: Script to be run at Subscriber
'vm2ksqlexpress\hh3'--
use [wip]
exec sp_addmergepullsubscription
@.publisher = N'B-DB\BDBSERVER',
@.publication = N'hh3_100_pub',
@.publisher_db = N'sandiego',
@.subscriber_type = N'Local',
@.subscription_priority = 0,
@.description = N'',
@.sync_type = N'Automatic'
Posting the response from another thread:
-->

A subscription needs to be on a database on a server.
So on a server, you can have multiple databases and each of these databases
can have subscriptions from a publication.
If you have multiple servers/instances, you can have the same named database
on each of them and then each such database can have a subscription from a
publication

Since you cannot have mutiple databases of the same name, you cannot have
subscription.
Either you will have to use different database names on the same server or
different servers/instances with same database names.

question about master system database

Hi, i use sql server 2005 express where i created several databases. When opening Management Studio, i can see, besides my databases, also Master, Model etc .. which manage the databases. Now i also use MDF files which are disseminated on the same server. I see that for one given user, there is also a Master, Model etc ... in c:\document and settings\that user\ ....

My question is: are those local Master, Model etc ... related with the central Master, Model ... of the central database system or are they independant? What if i delete the MDF files and its related system files in c:\.doc and settings\.. ?

Thanks

When you check under properties for the database in the Management Studio you should see the database is pointing to a particular file on the drives. So other than this MDF file you could delete any other MDF files with same name if you are sure no one else is using the files. You could try moving the files to a different location and if it lets you do it then no one is using it. If the files are being used you would get an '..Access violation..' or ' file in use..' error.

Hi jeffery,

Probably you forgot to check the services while setting up SQL Server Enterprise Edition. You should reinstall SQL Server to make those services available.

Question about how to upload file into database(sqlserver express)?

I'm a newbie.

I have googled many web sites, but i can't find the help that how to upload or store files(include images) into a database with Asp.Net 2.0.

Although i have found few samples about storing images into database, but the sample applied with Asp.Net 1.0 or 1.1 technology...

In microsoft MSDN,i found the help about FileUpload control, but the sample is about how to upload files to servers's folder with saveas() method.

Who can help me ?Give me a refer sample about upload files to database with Asp.Net 2.0. Is it need to use stream or what other method?

By the way, i want make a document managment system with vwd and sql express.

Thank u very much if u can give me a help.

The FileUpload control has a FileBytes property that has the raw bytes of a file. You want to save that data to an image column in the database.

I'm not a big fan of storing documents in a database. It wasn't designed for that, and while it can work, it doesn't work well. You're probably better off using the filesystem for the files, while storing the information about the files in the database.

Incidentally, if you're storing important stuff (legal documents, medical records, stuff like that), and you're not keeping the originals, you're asking for trouble.

Question about database

I have a database that I created in visual web developer 2005 express edition. I have sql server 2005 express edition on my computer, but the databases don't seem to be stored there. The only place that I can find the databases are in the App_Data folder. When I try to copy the database into sql server from the App_Data folder it tells me there is no editor available and make sure the application for file .mdf is installed. I am not sure what to do here.

Can I take the database that I created in visual web developer and move it into sql server, or do I have to recreate the database in sql server?

If I can just copy or move the database how do I accomplish this?

Thanks for the help

I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve. Are you trying to move the database to another SQL Server instance (that is, not the SQL Server Express instance you have?). With SQL Server you 'attach' databases. In SQL Server Express an attach can be done with a connection string setting (AttachDBFileName). The UI tools of the non-express version have an interface to do attach:http://msdn2.microsoft.com/ms190209.aspx

Question about authentiocation

Hi!

I have SQL Express runing and I'm using basic Authentication (Win 2k3 Web edi.).

But not all my Windows accounts show up in the list. Is this a bug or a setting? I want to add some users but I can't select them.

I'm newbies in microsoft SQL so if someone could help me.

SQL server requires you to add the users that will get permissions to use it. If you use basic authentication it will not use windows authentication but a proprietary way to create and authenticate users.

If you change it to use intergrated security you will need to add and define the permissions for windows users.

If you use intergrated security it usually is easier to define groups and give the group permission.

First of all, thanks for replying.

I used windows authentication. Because I think that's more easy to manage.

But my colleague says they had problems with dbase connection. I don't know what they exactly did, so I have to figure that out, but they are using the SQL auth. at the moment.

I've made a new usergroup called 'SQL'. I added the user 'infostrada' to that usergroup.

By default, everbody is allowed to connect to a win 2003 machine? (policy: access the computer true the network).

So; when using a new user in a new usergroup, do I have to make certain changes inside Windows to let them connect?

í'm first going to check what they changed and try soms things out.

Thanks again.
