question about logs

There are entries in the log that look like this:
Opening file D:\msssql\valdo.mdf
Opening file D:\msssql\valdo.mdf
Closing file D:\msssql\valdo.mdf
Closing file D:\msssql\valdo.mdf
This happens for each database and each entry is about 3 hundreths of a
second apart. Is this some kind of backup maybe? We use Veritas software and
I'm wondering if this is what their file level backup looks like.

Uncheck Auto Close feature of the database

There are 6 databases on this server besides msdb, master, etc. During a 45
second period each database is closed and opened about 15 times - all 6 of
them. And then it doesn't happen again for 8 hours and then all of them are
closed and opened twice each.
It didn't happen for a couple of days and then again they were all closed
and then opened many times within a one minute period.

I would disable auto-close. I am not a big fan of that feature.

maintenance plans set up.

I think when you run Enterprise Manager it has to open all databases to get
info and then they are autoclosed.
I think Kalen Delany had an article about this 3-4 months back in SQL Server
magazine.
